Assuming April 11, 2345hrs is NOW, Lets do a recap what happened today

NOW - 1 hour - ARrived back at carpark , and on the way home. What a long day
NOW - 3 hours - went to chinatown for supper. Eat the Great Wall porridge. Wasnt as fantastic as before anymore. BF and Frens went to sing KTV, Mr and Mrs Chan tired, go home rest.
NOW - 4 hours - All of us cannot decide where to go, in the end we end up at Telok Blangah Hill Park. Is like the Macritchie Tree Top walk. I didnt want to go at first, because i think going there as a group doesnt really serve any purpose. That place really is for people to go piak piak in my opinion. haha. Or maybe for couples or to-be couples
NOW - 6 hours - Stayed at TCC for about 5 hours. Yes , in that 5 hours, i surf net, play nds, read my book, eat langsane, drink earl grey, talk cock . Mrs Chan once said 'all u need is a laptop and you dont have to go out . I do agree with her to an extent. Maybe i am also "Otaku", or Otaku that likes to go TCC

Now - 12 hours - Check out from Fairmount. I love the hotel, i will definately go back again


Now - 16 hours - breakfast @ Pregos. one word - Shiok.



Now - 24 hours - Midnite movie - Confessions of a Shopaholic. I have that book. But i havent read it. I think i got the book for 2 years already. I quite like the show , though it doesnt qualify for any "oscar". At least i feel entertained , and is only $6. ( New Cinema FilmGarde promotion ) .
What do i get out of the movie ? hmm...

1. I like the term "The woman with the green scarf '
2. I can relate to her and her shopping habits because i am also a shopaholic. I never missed out anything i like and can afford.
3. I dont like her telling lies to cover other lies. haha. I hope i dont do that :)

Now - 28 hours - Dinner at Glutton Place. Check the spread. I prefer this to eating at restaurant because is more comfotable to eat in the room and you can multitask :)



Now - 35 hours - Lunch and forgot to bring charger adpator. Sucks again. Went back to take. Then head to Fairmount to check in.

Now - 38 hours - left home , headed to AMK library found out the library doesnt open on Public holidays. Sucks.

Recently there has been much craze in the office on the FB Bejeweled Blitz. You basically have 1 min to play the addictive game and try to hit as high a score as possible. Every tuesday, the score will reset and you compete again with your friends to see who is the best in that 1 minute frame.

Yes! We finally shipped Sledge to PRC. Though only 5000 units. at least is still a achievement. Frankly speaking, i dont even know the margin profits is enough to cover costs involved in this project or not.

Just sold my Mot Share at $4.60. Yeh. One share earn $1 USD :)

Got a mail from headhunters for Project Mgmr lead in a MNC. Asking me to send them my resume and expected salary. However i reply them telling them i can only start work in October. They replied say they can wait so long.

ANother sign to tell me to not start finding job now else more disappointments again...

I bought T3 magazine today and saw 2 items in it that i want to get! the AMR came just at the right time

#1 Street Fighter 4 ( PS3 )
I think i hardly touch my PS3 now other than using it to watch HK TVB DVDs that i record on my own. I cannot even rememeber the last game i played on it. I think is GTA? Or issit some online games i downloaded on Playstation Network. Nevertheless, i wasnt really on the hook for PS3 news , partly because i am always reading about content updates on WOTLK. patch 3.1 is coming!

The first time i saw SF4 is in Taipei when they are showing the demo. Immediately my shopaholic itch came back. I forgotten about it a couple of days later and today i saw in in the magazine and i went to youtube and googled on the reviews and demos.

I always wanted to get another pair of earphones. I have one SOny Good one. But that one has noise cancellation and not really siutable to bring out unless i am on the plane. Why ? because it got a small box along the earphone lines ( should be the noise cancellation unit ) .

I wanted to get Bose QC3, but that is too expensive ( $500+ ). Then i came across CKM50.. looks nice... affordable and it got 5/5 stars from T3 again! But i cannot find a dealer in signapore that sells AT earphones. I saw it in exhibition booths before . Did a google didnt manage to find any "reputable" shops either. Weelead told me try Best Denki.

SC suggested we have weekly sport activities since we are so "Free" now. we always wanted to do it but never have a chance. I suggested " why dont we go during lunch hour since now can go for extended lunch ". Thats a good idea! we used to be so busy having daily 1.30pm , 2pm meetngs. So it was technically not possible to go for anything sporty during the lunch hour ( considering one hour of sports, 30min cooldown and bath and then makan )

Today, we went to Sengkang Sports Complex to play Badminton. Ron and CH went to swim instead. Although it was raining, no issue since there is a sheltered pool at sengkang sports complex! They have everything at sengkang sports complex except (1) table tennis and (2) Tennis. I hope they build that soon.

Miss YZ play with her jeans and top. Barefooted and the 2 girls can actually win the guys man. Lol, the reason is very simple, " You all girls, i dont dare to all out scared whack you blue black then paiseh ".

Next wed, I will bring along my epic gear.....




Today we get our increment notification from our managers . I did the same to my team. Everyone is happy since this is something none of us expected. Why would we get AMR , knowing we will be exiting for the organisation in 176 days ? Anyway , any extra money is good money because our seeverance package will need to be re computed by the Finance. They probably got nothing better to do. Another classy act of poor management and organisation ( Wasting resources to recompute about 50 pax severance packages again ) .

In today's staff meeting, my boss suggesteed we should start planning for some outplacement activities for the department starting June. He looked at me, i think i am going to get the arrow. I always get arrows from him. Maybe because i always make things happen for him . :)

This morning , YZ gave me a buzz and told me she is not coming to the office because the children were sick. We have a call on friday trying to get Sledge out to the customers. we are so close to getting it out already , but again internal politics prohibits us to accomplish that. They are requesting for UT hours to meet the 16k mark before this can be done.

If this thing will have happen a year ago, we would have fight over our lives to get it out irregardless of what ever internal politics there are. However, based on the current situation , our fate in Sept and the state of the company, we have already 85% given up hope on this organisation .

What i am doing now is no longer a career. Is just a job. My career lies some other place now....

Road to Undying

Last week, i mentioned about our successful attempt to "of the Nightfall". Another piece of good news today.

What is Undying?
The Undying :: within one raid lockout period, defeat every boss in Naxxramas on Normal Difficulty without allowing any raid member to die during any of the boss encounters.

Our first attempt ( we did try once but not with this group combination )and we make it through. Discounting the first instructor attempt which probably is a "warm up".

Barclays Capital came to Moto office for a recruitment talk. It was organised by GSG group which is also affected by the layoff activities . They have a earlier exit date compare to our Group2 team. Some are going off in April, Some June. Our exit date is Sep 30.

Barclays, i guessed the best linkage most of us is with the Barclay Premiership ( EPL ) . Yes! Man utd!

They are primarily a investment banking branch of the bigger Barclays group. Have operations all over the world. According to them, their main hubs are Singapore, New York ( yeah! ) and London ( yeah! yeah! ). They are looking for software development expertise and simliar . Of course, using IT to make more $$$ in the banking sector.

The job environment looks superb. Office @ Atrium Orchard, beautiful offices ( They showed us a video ). I sent in my resume, *cross finger* chances are quite slim i might get an interview because i dont have the relevant field industry information, but got try got chance no try no chance.

I cannot remember the last time i saw a cockroach in the house. But i saw one today and is god damn big!

#1 Went breakfast at yck market today with SC , DX and WL. Probably going to be a common practice for the remaining 6 months. Food there tastes 1,000,000 better than what we can get at Level 3A. Everything else tastes better than the cafeteria in Level 3A. It sucks.

#2 WL asking me why i never join him lunch for so many days. Lol. He thought i was angry with him . I told him no. Just that i got more important stuff to work on in the morning . Anyway , i just need a PC and wireless to work. I dont have to be physcially in the office. However i still want to bring my lunch mates to U.D.D.E.R. I love the ice cream there!

What happened on the last day of Q1 ?

#1 A couple of colleagues left yday as part of the layoff exercise. YH was one of them. I read his farewell note and start to think what i will write on Sep 30. I look at his farewell gifts to all of us and start to think what i will give on Sep30. Sep30, exactly 6 months away from now and i still havent figure out what i want to do yet.

#2 New show from TVB, on snooker. Looks good, just that i dont like the cast.


#3 I finally found my E169 modem. Someone selling a brand new one for $140 ( Singtel is selling at $199 ) . Probably going to get it since i am a connected person and i cannot live without the World Wide Web

#4 GSG is being slashed too . So nice of them to help arrange for Barclay Capital to come to Motorola for a mass recruitment interview. They are hiring about 40+ people , i saw a few positions which probably suit me. and i heard they pay well! and their office is in Orchard!!

#5 Met up with JJ after like about ~2 months. The last time i saw him probably is at WC house during CNY. So much things happen during these 2 months. Being so close together during last 8-10 years makes me feel a little bit *dunno how to describe* english no good. Anyway i am glad i met up and have a good chat. I need to start taking care of him more. Dont ask me why, that's just me.

#6 Spotted a black girl at Chomp Chomp. Spotted her again at OPlus. Woosh.

#7 This one probably if my Guild mate sees it - " I gonna banned the word 加油 from my future conversations with the Chins. " :)

Healmemoto of the NightFall

Finally , after 3 separate attempts, ~50 deaths, we got the Nightfall! the hardest content in current WOTLK. Clearing Sartharion with 3 drakes up.

Drama occured after the title within guild. Dont understand why some guild mates cant differentiate between whats fun and whats serious.

Anyway, Next title is IMMORTAL/UNDYING and TWILIGHT VANQUISHER

Taipei Trip - What i never done before in all the previous trips

Taipei Trip - The Day we Teambuilt

Went to this indoor lazer trekking facility for our team building event. It is located opposite Taipei Main Station . For those interested can check out their website at http://www.lazertreks.com/

Basically is a indoor laser gun shooting game . Simliar to what we did for Paintball, minus the sweat and the pain. Our team is call 红色警戒 , and as expected we won! lol. I think we got some vouchers to revisit the place and a bottle of champagne. The vouchers wasnt really useful for me so i pass them to my peers in Taiwan.

Almost wanted to change to Wordpress

I always like new things. Was reading up on Blogger vs Wordpress and seems like Wordpress is better. But need a lot of setup in the end i give up the idea.

Day #2 @ Taipei

Have a early morning conference and we only left for the office after the meeting . The weather is drizzling and floating at about 18-20 degrees C which is technically a very good weather . Just the drizzling makes the mood a bit sulky.

I think the last time i visited Taipei was probably August last year. Been quite some time since i met up with the frens and collegaues in Taipei. Lunch was a simple one at the foodcourt below A4 ( Xing Guang San Yue ) . I went with Christine and gang and we chit chatted a bit about the company future. Lol. Sounds so business...

We did our work proper and purpose of coming for the day before heading for a simple dinner. It was a THai buffet below the office and happened to be crowded by some R&D Scientist group.. and i have never seen such a big oyster before. Took one to eat it, put lots of lime and chilli to kill that fishy taste. I probably will not try again because i started blurping ( due to the coke ) and all it comes out from my breath is oyster smell. :S

Damn.. i weigh almost 80kg!

maybe the default sad one is the one that is being informed of the breakup n the one who wanted to break is the one who should get over easier. people who initiated the breakup n trying to find out how the ex is doing probably is just trying to make himself feel better.

sounds like loving and being loved is still for oneself. selfless love probably only exists in fairy tales. not everyone can get over so easily n maybe, maybe the best way to get over quickly is to find another one that comes along. borrowing another person to forget this person isn't the best solution. this is like digging a hole to bury another hole.

Travelogue - Taipei ( 23 - 28 )

March 23

AT the airport now waiting in the lounge. THe flight is at 12.25 but i reached the airport at 9.30. DFS shopping is always fun. There is a Fifa store here which happens to be the only one in the world at the moment ( Yes, that is what the salesman told me ) . Saw some World Cup 2010 apparels which are damn nice. Willbe most likely goingn to buy on my way back.

The candy shop sells fxxking big lollipops too.. and free beer in the lounge. Actually i didnt realise that since i dun really drink beer so frequently until recently. lol




Flight is boring. I watched Madagascar II and it turn out to be a very nice movie. The flight is 4 hours and 30mins so it gives me a chance to watch one more show. I decided to watch "The Day the Earth stood still " but is damn boring. I gave up half way. Haha

Dinner is good. Ed brought us to a place call Ruth Chris Steakhouse.

The Weekend of March 22-23

March 22 Saturday
Today has a 10 man raid arranged for Undying. Means clearing naxx10 without anyone killed. didnt make it for first boss, and ends up as a 10 man normal run which is still equally fun.

At nite went to One rocheseter to attend Superman Wedding. First time i attend a dinner party. I.E , u dun ahve to stay in a ballroom around one table and eat a 10 course or 8 course dinner and then yum seng whole nite. This is more like american style where u get food from a spread and then just sit around and chillout.





The groom is 2nd from left .

One Rochester is near Buona Vista and is damn far from where i stay ( Sengkang ) . Raining and carpark is full. I end up parking in HDB.. cock...

March 23 Sunday
i spend 10 hours in raid. gosh... and got to know some of my guildies better. Not able to disclose further here. Soz.

To Help or Not to Help

A uni fren of mine called me yday on my way back. I havent been in touch with him for the last 10 years. we know each other through some other friends in hall and occasionally went to his mansion for mahjong. Yesterday he called me and ask me if how's J. J is his good fren in uni days but i guessed they havent been contacting for a very long time.

Apparently, J has get himself into heavy debts once again due to soccer bets. Yes , is once again because this is not the first time. about 1.5 - 2years back the same thing happened and i attempted to help him.

Haev a short sms conversation with him yesterday . All the "standard" yes i will change, no i dunno why this happens comes out. Anyway the takeaway from that conversation is "if you really have decided to turn over a new leaf, dun count on your frens, sort ur problems out yourself"

Helping a Fren and Harming a Fren is just a line away.

10km SubUrban Run @ Sengkang

Completed sub urban run 10km on sunday. This is a relatively smaller scale event compared with AHM and standchart marathon. I took part in the two in a team with Rek. The difference between that and individual open is that u need to finished the race together. Our timing is 1hr 0 min and 44sec. There arte a total of 115 teams in this category, we came in #35.. not bad but can improve. The first progressive run towards my 42km goal @ stand chart year end. Check out the pic below ! =)

The IT Fair this year ( 2009 )

2nd day of IT Fair. Was mentally prepared is going to be fxxking crowded. I have nothing in my mind i planned to get . The only thing probably is a micro SD card ( 8GB ) for my HTC Dream and 2 rolls of DVD R for my TVB shows.

I took ECP and ended up at the backside of suntec. Good thing they have the below to tell me where to park. Not as crowded as i thought. Was about to go to bugis and park actually..



once i reach there, my shopaholic itch is gone. So crowded, so noisy and isnt cheap at all. Canon Print Catridges for my printer at home selling $17 per color. I can get it at $14.90 at Funan....

Ended up at TCC typing this and enjoying my Mochavilla. :)

Was still thinking last week this time if i should get iPhone or Dream . but believe i make the right choice!

1. The syncing of contacts , calendar with gmail account
2. The apps and their interaction with the native features on the phone
3. It doesnt have "Motorola" on it!

Too much drinking = Sore Throat ?

Got sore throat and flu recently. I am trying to see if there is a link with the recently increased consumption of liquor to the sore throat. Tried to googled " sore throat + too much liquor " but couldnt find anything that confirmed the above statement. QB told me , most likely due to liquor because drinking is heaty and causes dehydration. Hmm....

Amazingly , i googled that Jack Daniel actually is a remedy to sore throat! Looks like next friday bachelor night for Superman at o+ , i can't run away from it....

Working from Office vs Working from a Cafe

Pros and Cons.

Nowadays, i usually would love to spend 1 - 1.5 days working from a cafe. not because i like to use that as a opportunity to "snake" out. But it do make a difference to me when i escape from the four walls of the office sometimes. I usually hang out at Starbucks or TCC , whichever outlet that is most conducive .

Today i stopped at Starbucks Centrepoint. I like that place because it is cosy and quiet especially in the morning. But decided to leave late morning when more and more people come. Because the place is relatively enclosed with a low ceiling , the noises tend to reflect around so it makes it difficult to focus.

I attempted TCC bugis after lunch. Not a bad place, just a bit too cold. Luckily i brought a jacket :) and of course , most important thing is that needs to be power source within reach else you probably cant stay at that place for too long. As for my car, i parked at AA river valley, about 10 mins walk to killney but is free. So a little bit of walking is worth.

The best thing i like about doing this kind of "Total office Mobility " is you get to be on your own and focus on work, no disturbances in office. And sometimes when you are tired, u sip what you ordered ( my fave is mocha-somethign. Mochavilla, mochachino ) look around at other people and start to decipher who they are, what they do and why are they hanging at cafes during office hours :0

Maybe if i can, i should start posting pics.. using my Zn5 of course.

Went for the NTU MBA Information Sharing session at Fullerton on Saturday. Got a much better understanding what to expect and what are the requirements after the talk. One of the entry criteria is to have a good GMAT score. The GMAT average for 2008 was 650..

I have 580.. Prof tell me dont waste time, go take again. Sighz :(

Facebook recently has this circulating around where everyone write 25 things about themselves and tag 25 friends. Here is mine

1. I initially thought this writing 25 things is a stupid idea but after seeing so many people write, i decided to write one for myself.

2. My career with motorola is going to end on Sept 30 and i still have not decide what i want to do

3. I love to go to gym and i frequent California Fitness. I usually go in the morning after dropping Mrs Chan in her office. Like that save money and save costs.

4. I fell in love with running after std chart half marathon last year and this year i am going to take part in more runs. I already signed up for Sub Urban run and most likely will go for AHM and Std Chart 42!

5. My wife earns more money than me. Sighz. Maybe i should have taken a finance degree 10 years ago.

6. I stay in sengkang and i love sengkang :). There is MRT, Shopping Mall, Sports complex and almost everything except a cinema

7. i have a 85 year old granny and 2 x 60+ aunties who took care of me and is my turn to take care of them for as long as they lived.

8. I am back at WoW gaming and i am impressed with my guild, pandamonium. :). I love my guildmates. Especially those who always bring me to go drink :P . The officers are equally great. Without them , i think we will not have progressed so far. I dont need a top guild , i need a homely guild and i already found the one.

9. I got a group of secondary school frens whom we still meet almost every week since we know each other in 1988. Do some mathematics and see how long we know each other. We still behave like kids when we meet. And we are into NDSL gaming recently.

10. I have a Mac, 1 laptop , 1 EEE PC , 1 PS3 , 1 Wii and 1 NDSL at home. I never get bored. I wonder why i didnt buy a PSP

11. I dont like to KTV. I scared i open my mouth , i will have a career dilema

12. My colleagues never ask me to go play soccer. they keep thinking i cannot play. If you all see this, please ask me the next time.

13. I got a colleague i know for 8 years 1 month and he is going to leave me on March 30 :(. If you want to know who is he. Dig out Buisness Times May 11 , 2002 newspaper, the amara adverstisement

14. I am a shopaholic. Everything i see i want to buy. Food, Clothes, Bags . That is why i need an accountant to be my wife.

15. I can stay at home whole day , as long as u give me a computer with internet access. There is tons of things to do. For a start , i can write another 25 things about me.

16. I eat 2 portions of food during lunch almost everyday. I weigh 78 kg now.

17. I love to play mahjong but my mahjong kakis is getting lesser and lesser. Anyone interested?

Going back to where it all started

Joined Motorola in 2000 and was located in level 3. The team expanded and level 3 does not have the room and space for expansion and we moved up to Level 4.. ( level 3A for whatever reason why it is call that way ) and technically speaking , we expanded to Taipei , Brazil and US as well!

And now we are back in level 3, size reduced back to 43 until Sep30 before we become history.

Feb 6 - Entering Mindef Reserves

After 2.5 yrs full time nS ( enlisted 1995 ) and 6 high key incamps, finally NO MORE RESERVIST. this last low key in camp is a hppy one, basically just doing parade rehearsals after parade rehearsals.

One chapter of my life closed. Time to open another chapter.

Mindef Reserves

Defination : MINDEF Reserve consists of NSmen who have completed their NS training cycle but have yet to reach the statutory age. They are no longer required to be called back for In-Camp Training (ICT) but are still liable for NS.

A So-SO Chinese New Year

Never go house visiting this year. Just the usual Chinatown Grab-Cheap-Goodies on Eve with Sec Sch Frens and then went to Josh's place for some makan and games session.

It rained during CNY Eve, makes the Chinatown experience a bit sickening. But nevertheless we still manage to roam till 3+ in the morning. There is no fireworks at Marina. This year, there isnt much to see, everything is contained on the floating platform, no pasar malam, just some food stalls underneath the grandstand seats. So embrassing when someone ( i think are european boys ) ask us after the firecrackers , "is that all ? no fireworks? "

The aftermath of the Motorola Massacre ( Jan 15th ) . Not only is Singapore Design Centrea affected ( Damage is 100% wiped out ) , sites and colleageus we worked with for the past few years has all been impacted. This is truly a sad moment to record in our history books. This is like my 911 .

The blood bath is unbearable, now we have to bear with the aftermath. 皮之不存，毛將焉附, without SDC, will the remaining 40 people here left to clear up the mess worth how much ?

A letter to my Team

This are the photos we took today, it looks fabulous with everyone in Black! Too bad we missed out Gabriel, John and the team in Taipei. Anyway maybe we can ask Gab to do some superimposing on it. Lets take another one tomorrow with our disney souvenirs!

Anyway, in about 11 hours , D-Hour will arrive in Singapore . Some of you will end up in Grp 1, some in Grp 2 and some will stay in Grp 3. No matter which group you are in, i hope everyone makes the best use of that and move forward. Find a job, go study, take a break, do whatever you wanted to do but never have a chance because of the long hours your boss ask you to work. Scrub CRs, Host calls, Do Deck etc. I have been in moto for 8 years and i consider myself the lucky one because i get a chance to start my manager career in 2004 and with a great team with me, i fly high and fly fast in my career. In about 4 years , DM team became a 21 man strong ( including IA ) across 2 sites and we make a name out of ourselves with the teams across the globe. That alone is a achievement i will remember for the rest of my life. Never have i worked with people like you all that is dedicated and fun loving. Although it is sad that DM team will become history , but when this door closed, another one will open. It may open later but just like red wine , the longer you wait, the better it tastes. LIke i always told my Taipei team, 接受， 面对， 放下

We joke a lot in our work, we complain about others in our work too , those are memories i will never forget. ( especially all the pizza parties and the sync ups and 三先生!!!) I love seeing you guys crowd around and chat and joke . it igives me a feeling that we build a strongly bonded team , it makes what we are doing a career and not just a job. I hate to say farewell , yet we have to say farewell to some of us, but we will sure meet again. The future in unpredicatable and tomorrow is so uncertain, no one knows what will happen.

So lets all face tomorrow just like the way we face our CRs and SQA , if the company think we are s3p2 and not SA stopper, then let them terminate us bah. The world is round, until we meet again, keep the DM spirit burning!

Now what ?

All the announcements are made. People who need to leave left, people who stay stayed and people like me and some others reset our career at moto for another 9 months.

I missed a lot of things.. in particular WL whom i know since i join Moto, lunch for last 8 years and done a lot of other things together....

Pros and Cons
1. You are ensured 1 month per year of service, if you are lucky you get a job in less than a month and you get on with a new career with a lump sum of money as savings. However looking at the economy now , you probably will not be able to find a job so soon. Consider that retrencement now is globally and there are a lot of people that will be eyeing on the same job as you do. And there is a potential that you will also suffer a paycut.

2. You get to have a job and find a new job at the same time , however, severance package may changed and you may not get as much as grp 1. Moreover, who can guarantee they dont change or extend the timeframe when your time is up

3. You dont get the $$$, but u keep your job. Probably wont have a career anymore but if Motorola gets another Steve Jobs, you became the elite group that bring MDB back to life.

Either 1 2 or 3, this is already sealed. Bosses are typing the letters and verdict will be out next week. Whichever one that you get assigned to , take it , accept it and move on. Just make sure you make friends with people in (3) cos you can always come back next time :)
